Love Is In The Hair

What’s not to love about a haircare range that’s not only great for your hair, but is also kinder and more sustainable for the environment?

Plant-based goes beyond just dietary choices, with consumers now delving into what their products are made of and how they are made. With so many great options now on the market, there’s no better time to make the switch – here’s how.

But before we get into it… what actually makes haircare vegan? The simple answer is – it’s a product whereby no animals are involved in every process from ingredients to testing. Here I’ve gathered a list of 5 plant-based Haircare that offers a diverse range of products, meaning you’re guaranteed to find a product for you.

1. Pureology

Pureology’s vision was simple; create the best professional products for colour-treated hair, all while caring for the planet, and the animals – and not compromising on the product. And my goodness have they stuck to their word, all while creating a range that speaks to luxury. They have 3 main values they stand by; integrity, sustainability and purity, which I think are so important to stick by when creating a product. A few top features in their line are…

  • Their Antifade complex: which they have included in every formula to protect colour vibrancy and ensure long-lasting colour. They’ve used ingredients such as sunflower seed, a UV filter, and vitamin E which fight colour-depleting environmental effects while ensuring long-lasting shine.
  • Zero Sulphates: sulphates are found in many haircare products, which are the main ingredients to cleanse hair – but also can strip colour. Pureology has found a way around that by using a blend of ingredients such as corn, coconut and sugar.
  • Concentrated formula: a little goes a long way in each bottle, with 70 or more applications in just one shampoo bottle.
  • Mineral oil free & paraben free: all their shampoo and conditioners are free from these ingredients and safe for you and the environment. We can’t complain about that.

To finish off this range, their products provide colour care for all – meaning they protect long-lasting colour-treated hair so you get more bang for your buck.

2. Davroe

This range is 100% Australian-made and owned and has been completely vegan for over 30 years. They have stuck to their vision which was to create a range that was honest and pure, and they do this by adhering to these principles: all-natural, vegan and Australian.

Davroe was the first Australian haircare brand to be sulphate, paraben, and petrochemical free, completely cruelty-free, 100% vegan and to use pure Australian native extract. Impressive, right? Better yet this entire range also provides colour protection, perfect for our hair colouring clients.

My top pick from them is their Remedy Range – formulated to help soothe an irritable and flaky scalp.

3. Coco & Eve

If you want to feel as though you’re on an island getaway as soon as you start your hair routine – then Coco & Eve is the brand for you. Bringing a taste of the tropics straight to your bathroom was Founder Emily's exact vision. Wanting to bottle up all of Bali’s magic, Emily sourced only the best ingredients from this piece of paradise. These include coconut oil and cocoa to ripen, juicy mangoes, papayas and guava. And yes, she spent years perfecting these formulas to ensure they were delivered. These products are also free from sulphates, phthalates, and parabens, and of course, are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

My top pick from the range is their award-winning ‘Like a Virgin’ hair masque, which hydrates and deeply conditions in just 10 minutes.

4. Virtue

This brand is one of the new kids on the block. Having only launched in 2017, they’ve already made a lasting impression on consumers and the industry. With their breakthrough formula of Alpha Keratin 60ku, this is a proprietary hair-healing protein scientifically proven to transform your hair into its healthiest self.

By including this ingredient in all their products, it’s able to work strand by strand, smoothing, resurfacing and filling in cracks of damage. This range allows for some incredible benefits you’ll be sure to discover when introducing these products into your regular hair care routine, including increased colour vibrancy, frizz reduction, split end repair, and an increase in thickness… just to name a few. I love these products for heat-damaged hair in particular.

5. NAK

Another proudly Australian-owned brand, their vision was to create beautiful haircare for everyone. Endorsed by leading salons and stylists, it has the Australian way of life at its core. From shampoo and conditioners to beautiful styling products, they have such a vast variety in their line. Their products feature natural vegan ingredients, such as coconut, rice, aloe and pear. They also include luxe botanicals and pure essential oils, as this helps to return softness and shine back to the hair.

Their blonde shampoo and conditioner range is great for neutralising (aka getting rid of unwanted) blonde, brassy or gold tones, as well as softening and restoring condition.
